The Torcano Times
Introducing 121C Boards here at Torcano Industries. Announcing our latest news! Now Shipping! In a recent blog by 121C Co-Founder Greg Autry, we learned all about, "What happens when you introduce rocket technology to skateboarding?" . 121C helps solve an environmental problem by upcycling this "100% Aerospace Grade Carbon Fiber." It is important to understand that they use perfectly good upcycled (scrap but new) material and not “recycled” (reused stuff.) Their aerospace prepreg Carbon Fiber requires special handling, transportation and even expensive, refrigerated storage. It’s far from “free.” As stated by the creators of 121C, "The aerospace grade material in the Aileron is so expensive that if we purchased it new, our cost for the Carbon Fiber alone would be more than what we charge for a complete build with trucks and wheels. With it’s 22 layers of the best CF we’d literally have to sell this board...

Before Bicycle Retailer and Industry News posts the official press release, we wanted to be the first to announce Torcano's exclusive global distribution partnership with another Orange County-based company RedMonkey Sports. Not only is their office local, but RedMonkey manufacturers its Kärv grips in Southern California as well. RedMonkey owner Michael Nasco said he's extremely excited to partner with us. Well, the feeling is most definitely mutual. To partner with someone who truly understands product development and brand building is truly an honor. Not to mention he's one helluva guy. He gives back a portion of all sales to a host of different cycling charities. If you haven't already, please check out the video interview of Michael that he conducted with Over the Hump earlier this year on the front page of the Torcano site.
We just delivered ORPs to Dr. Sanjay Gupta and his Fit Nation Team who have been in Orange County over the past couple days training hard for the Nautica Malibu Triathlon on Sept. 14. Special thanks to our main man and founder of the Pro Eco Tri Team, Scott Belnap, for making it happen!!!
Torcano had a great time yesterday at the OC Tri, supporting our Pro Eco Tri Team, which dominated yet another event!!! Thanks to Pro Eco and Rock N' Road for their support of Torcano!!!
In case you missed it, ORP's been tearing it up from a media perspective in April. ORP was featured in both Better Homes and Gardens and Outside Magazine in their respective May issues--that's nearly a total combined circulation of 10 million!!! Huge!!! What it goes to show you is that ORP is a product that knows no bounds from a user standpoint. It's for everyone that rides a bike!!! Not to tease you guys, but I'm going to. These recent press hits have led to something very special that we can hardly contain ourselves we're so giddy with excitement over. So stay tuned to our blog and Facebook for some big news over the next month!!!
Thank you to Pro Eco's founder Scott Belknap and Rock N' Road's owner Matt Ford and to everyone involved with Pro Eco's Kick Event!!! This is truly one of the best partnerships we could have forged right out of the gates...to be able to sponsor a preemiment tri team and have them represent our brand at races is truly special.
Here's another story, originating from yet another city in the United States. The storyline is always the same: stringent bike light enforcement because cycling fatalities are up. But it's becoming apparent that perhaps bike lights aren't enough. While we think it's great that most states require cyclists to use a bike light while riding at night, we think the evolution of the bike light includes sound. From the resounding response we've received from consumers and retailers alike thus far, we're confident that ORP is going to lead this (r)evolution. As a cycling industry we need to recognize that some people stay off their bikes not out of sheer laziness or time restraints, but because they worry about being safe. And herein lies the problem: this has a trickle down effect to their kids. The elementary school and junior high I went to in Northern California had something called the "bike cage" where hundred of bikes, including my blue Dyno, were locked up and used as our means...
